A prequel to Horton Foote's 1918 (released in 1985) On Valentine's Day
was filmed in 1984, then held back from release till 1986. Written by Academy
Award winner Horton Foote, the film follows the life of a young woman who
shocks the people of her small southern town by marrying a man from the
wrong side of the tracks. They marry on Valentine's Day and take a room
in the house of an impoverished family where their lives soon become intertwined
with their fellow boarders. Together with Portrait of a Marriage (never
released theatrically), On Valentine's Day and 1918 were later reedited
and incorporated into a Horton Foote TV trilogy on the PBS network.
